Chiang Mai has always held a special place in my heart <3 Each visit brings back beautiful memories and new discoveries… and one charming place in the old town area that I always visit every time I’m in Chiang Mai is the Raming Tea House Siam Celadon.
Located in a beautiful two-story Lanna Colonial-style teak house on Thapae Road, the teahouse serves food and beverages and sources tea products from their plantations in Mae Tang and Chiang Dao districts. It also features a shop showcasing Lanna’s famous pottery style, Siam Celadon, as well as occasional local art and crafts exhibitions and workshops.
This visit, after taking a little break from the hotel’s buffet breakfast, I thought it was the perfect time to enjoy the afternoon tea before heading back to Bangkok.
Here are the things we love about Raming Tea House:
Raming offers four sets of Afternoon Tea suitable for 1-2 people. The set we had today was the Grand Raming Tea for 2 people. It includes assorted mini cakes, tarts, and a savory bake of the day, along with their signature two pieces of purple rice, or “Khao Khum,” scones served with coconut cream, homemade jam, and coffee caviar. All are beautifully presented with Celadon ceramic ware.
For the tea selection, you can choose two sets of hot tea or one hot and one iced tea. The price is 895 THB. View more menu here
My first encounter with Raming Tea House was love at first sip of their black milk tea. I love its rich aroma and exquisite taste, which is even better than my other favorite, traditional Thai tea. The black milk tea has since become my go-to choice.
I’ve come here many times during the day, but my favorite time is around 9 AM, just when they open the shop. I love to sit outside in the garden, enjoying a cup of tea in the open space before the weather gets warmer.
Recently, the Raming Tea House turned the space in front of the counter area into an air-conditioned room. I do miss the swing chair they used to have, but I believe it’s for the best, helping with PM 2.5 in Chiang Mai and the heat.
The name “Raming” comes from the old name of the Ping River (Mae Raming), which originates in the high mountains of Chiang Mai and flows through, nourishing the areas where the tea trees grow.
Back in the older days, while the world already knew tea as a drink made from tea leaves, the locals knew the tea leaves as a type of snack made from the fermentation of tea leaves called “Miang.” For three generations, Raming Tea has developed its tea plantation to meet international tea standards and introduced the first Thai tea brand from the mountains to both the local community and the world.
The Raming Tea House is open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Afternoon Tea is available from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. To reserve the Afternoon Tea and book a table, contact 053-234518 or 06-3135-7555.
